Bryan MacDonell

As one of the founders of The Source, I have taught transformation for several decades in a multitude of capacities. I lecture Applied Yogic Philosophy on our various Yoga Teacher Trainings. In a nut shell, learning to understand the human condition by being self reflective and increasingly conscious and how to make growth decisions versus fear decisions.

Renee Watson

I have always been fascinated by the wisdom of the human body… as shown in my dance background, nutrition and fitness studies. I have been teaching Pilates since 1997 and over the years, my teaching has evolved to integrate Yoga, breath work, anatomy, fascia, mindfulness, well-being and flow. I bring all these elements into my classes and private sessions in order to provide a unique experience for each person. As co-founder of The Source, I’ve had the privilege of presenting presenting our Pilates and Yoga teacher trainings around the world, offering retreats on an eco-island in Malawi, and working with international ciientele in Maldives. I am forever grateful we have found our beautiful new space and I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Lynn Huskisson

I have been working as a Pilates Instructor for 22 years now, the last 14 of which have been in the Cape at The Source. I work across all the Pilates disciplines of mat, reformer, cadillac, wunderchair, spine corrector and the smalls such as circles, elastics and balls.

My work started with pure Pilates but more recently I prefer to include some of the other exercise modalities I have done workshops in e.g. Feldenkrais, Lyno, myofascial release work. I teach group equipment and mat classes, as well as doing semi-private and private sessions, depending on the needs of the client. Some of the work is for pure fitness and a lot is rehabilitative is some way.

Donna Bruins

I started Pilates at the studio around 15 years ago via a gift voucher and I haven’t stopped since – I can honestly say it’s the only exercise routine I have really enjoyed and stuck to!
I then ventured into the Foundation/Basic Pilates Mat Course largely to improve my own knowledge and practice but then started teaching Beginner’s Pilates and have also been teaching an on-line class.
Coming from an admin background I started helping at the front desk seven years ago… how great that I get to work in a beautiful space and see our lovely clients and trainers on a daily basis!

Michelle Winn

My love for Pilates, the human body, movement and health, began in 1999 as a personal trainer. In 2004, I started my journey at The Source which the people I consider family. My training incorporates intuitive insights into the human body that I have cultivated through the years of exploring the fine art forms of Pilates, Yoga, Aerial Yoga and other wisdoms that make up this beautiful field. I look forward to sharing with you my knowledge, training and love for what I do to help you enjoy the benefits of health and vitality.

Christy Smith

I made the move from being a professional ballet dancer to full time Pilates instructor in 2008. As well as teaching private and group Pilates classes, I still teach ballet at Cape Town City Ballet Co. and do rehabilitation work with injured dancers. I have a passion for the miracle of engineering that is the human body, and continue to expand my understanding through continuing education courses, in Pilates as well as the Franklin Method and Slings in Motion modalities. I have also developed and presented several workshops for Pilates teachers, ballet teachers and physiotherapists. I am accredited with the internationally recognized Pilates Method Alliance based in the USA. I have been part of the teacher-training team at Conscious Movement Education for many years and have twice presented workshops at the Conscious Movement Conference. I look forward to many more years of helping people get the most from their bodies.

Lilani Vlok

I was initially introduced to the Pilates method while studying dancing (ballet and contemporary) at the University of Cape Town. After various knee injuries, my hope of becoming a professional dancer ended, which led me to do my teacher training in 2000 with Body Arts and Science International (BASI). I was certified in both mat and equipment (Reformer, Chair and Cadillac) in 2001. I have taught at various studios in Johannesburg and Cape Town, all of which have had high standards and very knowledgeable instructors. Through the years, continuous learning has been very important to me. I have attended various workshops by South African and international movement experts in order to keep up to date with movement and Pilates trends.

Debbie Wright

My name is Debbie and I am 62 years of age (2022).  My early career was always in administration and that is how I came to meet up with Renee – I joined Renee Watson Pilates Studio as the receptionist.  Part of my salary was 2 classes per week.  Needless to say I fell in love with Pilates as I never seemed to get bored!  It was decided that as the receptionist I should complete the Pilates mat course so that I could inform the students about what to expect. The rest is history, as they say! I then completed the equipment course and at the ripe old age of 50, I started to teach Pilates full time.  I teach mat and equipment classes as well as see private clients, and I’ve never looked back.

Kerry Marais

I have been practicing Yoga for more than 15 years and continue to be dedicated to an Ashtanga mysore practice. It’s my love for Yoga and it’s transformative power that inspired me to complete my teacher training in 2013. Yoga taught me to embrace life and to be more present, allowing me to find a deeper connection to self. It is this passion that I wish to share with others.

Saretha Olivier

Coming from a proffessional ballet background, I was introduced to Pilates through my dance training. I joined the CAPAB ballet company in 1995. For many years after my proffessional dance career ended, I did personal training and aerobics which I studied through ETA. I did my Pilates training through Reneé Watson on mat and equipment in 2003 and started working full-time as a Pilates instructor as well as lecturing on courses. In 2009 I moved to Pretoria and opened my own studio. I have always loved Cape Town and always wanted to come home! After being away for 15years, I decided to come home with my 2 daughters! Pilates and dance conditioning is my passion, but I enjoy working with people in general and doing what I love every day!

Mary-Ann Mottram

The first 35 years of my life were dedicated to dance and hanging up my pointe shoes came with much sadness and soul searching.
Looking to fill a creative gap, I studied landscaping and went on to create gardens. When I stumbled upon yoga at gym, I began a beautiful journey that continues to challenge and delight me. Yoga connects me to my truth.

I hope to share the extraordinary magic of breath, movement and music in my classes.

I have completed my 200hr and 300hr Vinyasa teacher training and have recently studied Yin Yoga at the Source.

Shannon Fenton

I am a Yoga and Pilates teacher at The Source. It was my dancing background and love of creative movement that led me here. I enjoy learning about new forms of bodywork and continue to add them to my repertoire. All my classes focus on fluid transitions, deep stretches and strong, creative sequencing.

Sam Hozack

My first yoga class more than 30 years ago had me feeling all my own frustration and impatience! Looking back at my younger self, I realise now just how mentally & emotionally inflexible I was.  My practice has been a deeply personal journey of self-discovery, guided by the rich sensorial experience of breath and my wish is to share that with others as they unroll their own profound journey on the mat.

Alessandra Chiffi

Originally from Italy, I am a physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor. After ten years working as a physiotherapist with orthopedic patients, athletes, and rugby players in Italy, I moved to South Africa where I currently teach Pilates in Cape Town. After experiencing the benefits of Pilates firsthand while playing soccer, I became a true believer of the method and obtained my first Pilates qualification in 2011. I now wish to share my love for Pilates with everyone.

Maxcine Francke

Hi, I’m Maxcine. I’m 21 years old and I’m a kickboxer. I’ve always pushed myself physically, but I recently felt drawn to something deeper—something that could bring me balance, strength, and peace. That search led me to The Source.

Yoga and Pilates feel like the missing pieces in my journey, not just to improve my kickboxing but to help me become a calmer, more centered person. I want to move with purpose, breathe with intention, and strengthen my core—both physically and mentally.

Starting at the front desk is just the beginning, but I can’t wait to see where this path takes me.

Dale Delport

Through my practice I have come to recognise the teacher and the pupil within us all. I find myself in a constant state of learning… learning to honour my path, in turn creating more space for love, acceptance, and awareness. Life is a creative act and yoga has allowed me to fulfill this notion. As my practice deepens, so does my relationship to self and the souls around me. I find myself living with an open heart and mind, feeling all the more grounded as I navigate my time on earth. I can only hope to show others the same sense of belonging and being, which I have had the freedom of experiencing through the practice of yoga.

Annelize Zuidema

Kayla Obbes

My yoga journey has been a transformational one, a journey back to myself. Initially completing my 200 hour YTT at the source in 2021, I began to tap into movement and breath as a healing modality. I aim to teach from a genuine place of understanding and hold the space for others through mindful movement.

Levson

Levson is or skilled handyman and gardener. You’ll see him at the studio every Thursday when he sorts out anything and everything! Levson has been with us for the past 8 years and is also part of our Source

Emily

Emily has been our fabulous housekeeper for the past 3 years! She is part of our daily lives and is responsible for keeping the studio (and homes) in order. Emily always has a smile on her face and brings great energy into our space.

Harry

Having been re-homed last year, I’m the newest member of The Source family. I’ve settled into this space beautifully and you will often find me napping in the studio or soaking up sun on the steps.

Megan Kerschbaumer

I began my Pilates journey as a client. After completing my BSc in medical physiology and my Dance Teachers training certifications I began to see the overwhelming benefits of pilates in all areas of movement, health and wellness.

Since completing my Mat certification with The Source in 2017 I have taught in various dance, pilates and fitness studios across Cape Town and am currently completing my Pilates Equipment Certification. I enjoy learning and integrating new and different techniques to maintain healthy body movement. I am fascinated with the human body in motion, and endeavour to create a space where people from all walks of life can build a deeper understanding and respect for their own body’s.

Montana Davies-Phippen

Montana (or Monty!) started practicing yoga in London many years ago. She eventually went from enjoying a Sunday evening class to following her teacher to India, where she realised the practice extended far beyond the physical and delved into the Bhakti practices of loving devotion. She since spent 2024 traveling Asia, from meditating with monks to exploring Taoist temples, culminating her learning with a yoga teacher training in Bali.

Montana is fascinated by how traditional yoga can help us in our modern lives. A keen student of yogic philosophy, she gives her infinite gratitude to our teachers. Also a believer in blending the approaches of the East and the West, she builds a holistic practice that calms both body and mind. If she’s not on the mat, Monty is most likely to be found at Muizenberg, where she continues her lifelong pursuit of learning to surf.

Les-Lee Robinson

Movement in some form or another has been a part of my life since I was a toddler. The Pilates method resonated with me as a dancer and I have been involved in the dance and and fitness industry, including personal training, for over 30 years. My teaching brings a variety of training methods into my classes and private sessions, where clients can expect to build a stronger, leaner and more flexible body. I love sharing the practice of Pilates with people from all walks of life.
